Bringing New Life to a Classic Ranch in Joyland, Lexington KY

We recently completed a full home remodel for a family in the Joyland neighborhood of Lexington. This quiet community on the edge of town is full of mid-century ranch homes with lots of character. The home we worked on had a sturdy brick exterior and a traditional layout, but inside, things felt dated. Our client wanted a modern living space that worked better for their family without losing the original charm.

Challenges the Homeowner Faced

Like many houses in Joyland, this one had a closed-off layout and aging systems. The kitchen and living room were separated, which made both areas feel cramped. On top of that, single-pane windows caused drafts, and the electrical and plumbing systems were no longer reliable. Because the home was about 1,500 square feet, we needed to maximize space while keeping the remodel practical and affordable.

Our Remodeling Approach

To fix the layout, we removed the dividing wall between the kitchen and living room. This instantly created a more open space and allowed light to spread throughout the home. In addition, we upgraded the electrical and plumbing systems and installed energy-efficient windows for better insulation and comfort.

We also focused on finishes that were both modern and low-maintenance. Hardwood-look flooring was installed to give the feel of natural wood, and quartz countertops were added to brighten up the kitchen. Custom cabinets and storage solutions helped keep everything organized. For even more impact, we improved the lighting across the entire space.

The Finished Result
