From Sliders to Style – French Door Upgrade in Greenbrier

Project Summary

We recently completed a custom door installation project for a luxury home in Greenbrier, Lexington KY. The homeowners needed to replace outdated patio sliders that connected their living room to an outdoor deck. We upgraded them to double French doors with energy-efficient glass and enhanced security features. The new doors dramatically improved the space’s look, comfort, and function, while maintaining the upscale feel of the home.

The Challenge

The original doors were aging aluminum sliders that no longer opened smoothly, allowed drafts, and looked out of place in the high-end living space. The homeowners wanted something more secure, better sealed, and more elegant. One major challenge was installing the heavier French doors without damaging the surrounding trim or flooring. With an event coming up, they also needed the work completed on a tight schedule.

Our Door Installation Approach

We recommended a set of custom outswing French doors with low-E glass and built-in grilles that matched the home’s colonial design. These doors offered a full opening width and a tighter seal than sliders. We carefully removed the old unit and prepped the opening with waterproof pan flashing. The new door was leveled and anchored with long screws for added support. We reused the original interior trim where possible and matched any new pieces with custom paint for a seamless look.

To ensure comfort and efficiency, we tested for air and water sealing using a hose test after installation. The hardware included multi-point locking mechanisms and a smart deadbolt on the inactive door for additional security. The new doors swing open onto the deck easily and are stopped with hardware that prevents them from hitting outdoor furniture or siding.
