Project Overview

This home remodeling project took place in the Shriners neighborhood of Lexington, KY, an established area known for its well-built mid-century ranch homes. The homeowners wanted to breathe new life into their long-time residence. Although the home had good structure and timeless style, the interior needed a major update. The Challenge

This classic one-story ranch had not been remodeled in decades. The kitchen was boxed in, the bathrooms were dated, and the living spaces felt dark and closed off. The original layout, typical of the 1950s, didn’t suit the modern lifestyle of an active family. The homeowners also needed better storage, upgraded systems, and improved energy efficiency. We had to complete the renovation with high-end finishes to match the expectations of the neighborhood, all while working within the home’s original footprint.

Our Approach

We began the remodeling process by opening up the main living spaces. A non-load-bearing wall between the kitchen and dining area was removed, which allowed us to create a larger eat-in kitchen that flows naturally into the living room. Custom shaker cabinets, quartz countertops, and a large center island gave the kitchen a fresh but timeless look. New lighting and wider walkways made the space feel brighter and more functional.

All three bathrooms were gutted and rebuilt. We installed walk-in showers, comfort-height vanities, and slip-resistant flooring to support aging in place. Throughout the home, we refinished original hardwood floors and installed matching plank flooring in areas that previously had carpet or tile.

We also addressed energy efficiency by replacing the home’s aging windows and drafty doors. The new models improve insulation and match the home’s original style. Every design choice, from cabinet finishes to lighting fixtures, was selected to blend modern convenience with mid-century character.
