Vinyl Flooring Upgrade for Kitchen and Baths in Shadeland

Project Overview

We recently finished a vinyl flooring installation in a kitchen and two bathrooms of a mid-century home in Shadeland, Lexington, KY. The homeowner wanted to replace outdated tile and laminate in these high-moisture areas without a full renovation. Our team installed luxury vinyl flooring in both plank and tile styles to deliver a clean, comfortable, and water-resistant update. This project modernized the space with minimal disruption, all while maintaining the character of the home.

Customer Challenge

The kitchen floor was covered with old ceramic tile that had chips and stained grout. It was uncomfortable to stand on and difficult to clean. One bathroom had peeling laminate that wasn’t water-resistant, while the other had tiny original tiles with missing pieces. The homeowner was worried about water getting into the subfloors, and needed a solution that was waterproof, safer underfoot, and visually appealing. A major concern was minimizing demolition, since the homeowner preferred a fast, low-impact update.

Our Approach

We recommended luxury vinyl flooring to solve both aesthetic and functional concerns. In the kitchen, we floated wood-look vinyl planks directly over the old ceramic tile after applying a floor leveler to even things out. The planks offered a softer feel and a more modern style, blending nicely with the home’s mid-century look. In the bathrooms, we used stone-look luxury vinyl tiles. We removed the failing laminate in one room and prepped the plywood subfloor. In the other bathroom, we leveled over the original mosaic tiles to avoid damaging the historic base. Both bathrooms received the same LVT for a consistent, upgraded look. We added silicone caulk around edges and used low-profile thresholds between rooms to keep transitions smooth and safe for the older homeowner.

The kitchen now features warm, wood-style vinyl flooring that is easier to stand on and makes the space feel more inviting. The vinyl floors are also much quieter and warmer than the old ceramic tile. The two bathrooms now have durable vinyl tiles that mimic ceramic but offer more comfort and complete waterproofing. The new flooring is simple to clean and adds visual appeal without the hassle of grout or hard surfaces. Smooth transitions make movement between rooms safer and more seamless. The entire project was completed in just three days, and the homeowner is thrilled with the results.
