Modern Floors Without a Full Remodel

One of our recent projects involved installing new vinyl flooring in a kitchen and bathroom in Joyland, Lexington KY. The homeowner wanted to replace old, worn-out surfaces with something stylish and waterproof. However, she didn’t want the cost or hassle of a full renovation. That’s where our vinyl plank and tile solutions came in.

Dealing With Old, Problematic Floors

The kitchen had linoleum that was over 20 years old. It was peeling at the edges, stained, and no longer easy to clean. The bathroom had similar issues with old sheet vinyl. Water exposure over the years had caused the edges to curl, trapping dirt and moisture underneath.

In addition, the subfloor in the kitchen had some uneven spots due to normal settling. The homeowner also wanted to avoid floor height issues that can happen with thicker materials. Because of that, we needed a flooring solution that was thin, durable, and easy to install over a less-than-perfect base.

Planning the Vinyl Flooring Solution

We chose luxury vinyl plank (LVP) for the kitchen and luxury vinyl tile for the bathroom. Both came from the same product line, which made them a perfect match in height and finish. LVP is 100% waterproof and flexible enough to handle minor floor imperfections.

First, we removed the old flooring and cleaned the subfloor. In areas with dips, we applied a leveling compound to create a flat, solid base. This step helped ensure long-term durability and avoided creaks or soft spots.

Installation With Style and Function in Mind

In the kitchen, we laid down wood-look vinyl planks in a warm oak tone. They immediately made the space feel updated and inviting. For the bathroom, we selected a gray stone-look vinyl tile. It gave a clean, modern vibe while staying soft and comfortable underfoot.

Both styles clicked together as floating floors, which helped speed up the install and avoided problems with adhesive. We sealed around the tub and toilet with waterproof caulk and installed satin nickel threshold strips for a clean transition between rooms.

A Fresh Look and Practical Upgrade

The result was a huge transformation. The new vinyl floors look like real wood and tile but are easier to maintain. Visitors have been surprised they’re not actual hardwood or stone. Most importantly, the homeowner now has clean, waterproof surfaces that are safe and easy to care for.

As a bonus, the new floors helped reduce tripping hazards and improved the home’s hygiene. All of this was done in just two days, with no major changes needed to walls or plumbing. For this Joyland home, it was the perfect blend of beauty, comfort, and practicality.
